Search script with Google API

i want to use DigitalPoint's search script, but maybe this will exceeded GOOGLE API TOS, and i dont want to ask to google.

So, if i use it, then is it possible that Google penalize my site? :confused:

I think you are fine... Even at http://www.google.com/apis/ one of the program ideas they have is to "Create a novel UI for searching". Which is all it's doing.

I have never heard of Google complaining about anything anyone does with the API, as long as it's not within a commercial product or service.

i have 2 more questions:

1- Have u ever ask to Google about using your search script? if no, why dont want to ask them?
2- As i understand, with your searh script, users can use only 1000 times a day. 1001st searching will not allowed, right?

I have not asked them, because in my mind it seems like a silly question... Like asking them if it's okay if I search with my web browser at www.google.com... :) That is the type of thing the Google API is designed for.

As far as the 1,000 query limit, you are correct... your Google API has a 1,000 query limit per day (digitalpoint.com typically uses about 100 queries per day for the search engine script and it's available on every page within the site, so it would have to be a rally huge site to go over 1,000 I think).

I was concerned as well so I sent Google an email. Here is their reply:

"Thank you for your note and for your interest in the Google Web APIs.
Google restricts use of the API service when it is utilized in conjunction
with a commercial application.

Projects are considered to be commercial in nature when the products or
services developed with the APIs are used (in whole or in part) to obtain
revenue. If you're incorporating Google's search results on a page that
posts advertisements, then your use would be considered commercial.

If your intended use does not fall into this category, then no additional
permission is required before getting started."

Hope this clears it up.
