Belfast Heavy SF is the closest font I found to that & you said it's not even close. It's hard because it's not an official marine Corps font type. Going through all the different font types one by one is becoming too time consuming. I'm shocked that mine looks the least like the original than all the others.
At any rate, Good luck everyone.
It would be nice if you had a better image of it, that one has over 175 elements in it & most font identifiers can only handle a max of 50 elements. :(

You're an idiot - it is not that easy to just guess what the font is, there are thousands of different fonts.
For $40, you can't expect someone to scroll through every single font.
What is wrong with something almost exactly the same anyway?

Why no one will match the font.... http://www.ascenderfonts.com/font/news-plantin-bold.aspx
The original designer manually fooled with the r and any other letters he didn’t quite like, it’s a
common practice. Many of the letters are an exact match if you take plantin bold and stretch it
to 70% width, then skew it 17 degrees.
Sample of Fonts:

What font is that (looking it is very close - and "a" is also modified)
scorpionagency
Sep 11th 2008, 10:21 pm
belfast heavy sf (using italics) matches with most the letters too. the curve on the lower case "a" is a bit to high & some of the walls are a bit thin. Hard font to pinpoint exactly without recreating it from scratch, but then there's no font file to go with it when done in vector from scratch either. :(

I have to disagree... Antiqua has different "a,r,i,n" in any case, no one will find a perfectly matching Font.
The font used is clearly a custom font job and manipulated. With Fonts the differences are very subtle.

mine is diff. antiquia :)
If you look closely at the bottom right shaft of the "A", you'll notice yours isn't rounded
while the original is rounded.
If you look closely at the bottom of the "n", you'll notice yours only has prongs
on the outside of the right shaft of the "n", and the original has prongs on
both sides.
These aren't things which are manipulated, it's the font only.

I can move the letters closer to remove the spaces - that's easy.
I was playing with the "S" trying to get it as close as possible to the
original (but it wasn't very clean) - so I used http://www.chesterfield.k12.sc.us/chesterfield%20High/Student%20Webs%2007-08/Brian%20Chambers/images/MarineLogoMO.jpg to try and be more precise.
I have a Font editor program and If I have some time I'll edit the
font I used so it will be a standard font to create the type without having
to manipulate with paths. :))

I think the problem is that the font you want is probably a modified font in angle, spacing between letterings and width (probably been compressed) and so no standard font would replicate that. It's very difficult to find the exact font for something like this, there are literally millions of similar fonts to that.
Perhaps not quite as easy as you had persumed ;)
