Comments from people or bots with spams

I have quite a few bots or real people who spams comments, trying to gain backlinks from my personal blog.

Is this a good sign or a bad sign ? I mean my site isn't popular yet, and the fact these spams spam their links here to increase their backlinks, might mean my site getting more indexed by SEs.

Or should I block them all out? Only to accept genuine comments.
I am afraid that more of these comments are actually negative, but at least it shows some "acvitities" on my site.

Most of this spam is automated and every blog receive it.
It's not good and it's not bad as far as you can block it effectively.

Remove the spammy links at least and approve the comments (if they make any sense) if you wish to simulate activity.
Better yet - focus on publishing high quality content instead of waiting for the spammers to generate some content.

I generally prefer to delete the SPAM. Askimet has been doing a good job so far to filter out most of the spam comments.
At times, I take away the link, but retain the comment, just to keep the person interested to come back for more and give me some traffic!

I put all my blog comments into moderation; I take time to review each and every blog comments.

I would remove any posts that are obviously irrelevant. It dilutes your brand and the value a site visitor receives if your blog is full of worthless comments. I feel that it reflects poorly if you have three comments and all of them are obvious spam. I don't mind giving a link if you can leave a good comment but I don't want a bunch of "I agree!" comments with links back to make money online sites.

You may accept genuine comments. When your site becomes more popular than spam comments will not be good for your visitors.

For me, it depends on the blog. I expect to get hit on my personal blog from everybody named Tom 'SEO' Houston, Dick 'Online' Marketer and Harry 'Limo' Services out there. If it is an 'aside' post I generally do not care, others I am more sensitive about.

I have one article over a year-and-half old that is still pulling in several comments a day. I delete almost each and every one of them. It is rare that I let another one through. The comment has to be just what I am looking for.

Now if I owned a blog about knitting patterns for example, I would never allow links from half of the characters I have seen waltz through. I am a firm believer in 'you are what you link to' and Harry 'Limo' Services just does not fit into the grand scheme of Purl One.

Take your time to review it. You should block the spam comment and only accept related comments. If it is a negative feedback, review it, answer it and improve it. It encourages future visitors to share their thoughts.

There are alot of software programs that do this. Iis only for traffic because the SEO benifit is negative.

hmm maybe I should remove their links and edit some of their comments. Since I don't have much each day because theres little traffic to my blog.

i get ton of spam comments which i dont even bother reading. my blog is moderated and i activated akismet plugin which catches the spam and puts in the spam folder. once in a while, i just go there and hit delete all

Remove all those spammy links. That is not a good sign. put a CAPTCHA feature in your blog..so, that will block all the spammy comments by bots.

That would be dishonest. Maybe remove the links. If the comments are too spammy or insincere, then delete them altogether. Don't fall into this trap. If people catch onto you doing this, it will not be too good.

I have only revised comments on a couple of occasions for this one guy. The comments were legit, but looked like they were written by a kid. Since it was a Company blog and the commenter was one of the partners, I took out my blue pencil and marked it up a bit. He was pissed off a little in the beginning, but understood later on.
